You talk about creating your own bauogrkcnd story that helps shape your initial skills I know you never played Shadowbane, but they did something like this; and it was fun. The system went SOMETHING like this: you have 10 points, and you need to allocate them across 30 feats, with each feat ranging from 1-3 points (I know feats are D&D, but you get the idea).
